What is Physiotherapy and how can it help me?

Physiotherapy is the practice of restoring physical health and vitality to the body. It can leverage the body’s ability to reduce pain, regain or improve one’s range of motion, strengthen natural support systems to improve balance, and return one’s ability to attend daily and recreational activities. The practice of physiotherapy is far more than injury recovery. Depending on your individual needs we will assess how physiotherapy can specifically improve your physical wellness. Depending on those needs we may collaborate with other practitioners and recommend alternate or additional treatment to physiotherapy alone.

Who will be assessing and treating me?

Our experienced physiotherapy staff are all professional, established and fully qualified in their field of expertise. You’ll be in very well-trained hands.

What is the assessment process?

Your physical health journey is unique. To provide the best possible care, we spend time getting to know you. At your first assessment, you and your therapist will discuss your health history and your overall goals. Past medical data such as diagnostic imaging reports, medical records, surgical notes, and lab tests may also be reviewed. Also expect a thorough physical assessment of the affected region of the body. At every step of the evaluation, our therapists ensure that you feel comfortable and supported.

Treatment

The types of treatments available are as unique as the many individual issues we encounter. Your personalized treatment plan may include but is not limited to:

  • Manual therapy – soft tissue and joint mobilization and manipulation
  • Regional movement pattern re-education
  • Muscle imbalance corrections
  • Postural education
  • Balance rehabilitation
  • Therapeutic strength and flexibility exercises
  • Local modalities (TENS, ultrasound, heat and ice)
  • Acupuncture / Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)

A customized program to manage your injury between physiotherapy visits is critical to your recovery. You may receive instructions for additional exercises you can do at home.

The focus of each physiotherapy treatment will vary according to the stage and nature of the injury or condition. Physiotherapists promote independence and work with you to ensure your rehabilitation and individual goals are achieved.
